Eco-friendly Whale Watching Excursions
Concerned about the environment, AML Cruises has, for the past forty years, adopted eco-friendly practices, especially during its whale-watching excursions. When you board on one of our ships, you will observe the largest marine mammals with the utmost respect for their environment.
AML Cruises noticed the environmental issues and cofounded Alliance Éco-Baleine in partnership with Parks Canada, the Sépaq, and the Group for Research and Education on Marine Mammals. The Éco-Baleine Alliance has been committed since 2008 to adopting the best eco-responsible practices during whale watching cruises to make the Saguenay-Saint-Laurent Marine Park the best model of sustainable use in the world.
The work of the Alliance members has led to the development and implementation of respectful sea observation activities, serving as a model for the industry. The organization also supports research, training, and education activities related to whale watching at sea.
Other actions implemented by Croisières AML also have a concrete impact on the environment. For instance, cruise ships have low-consumption engines, and captains limit their speed to 25 knots. These tangible actions help reduce fuel consumption and disturbances to marine mammals. With the same goal in mind, the capacity of the boats has been increased, which has allowed the number of departures to be halved over the past 12 years.
Having fun while respecting marine life
If you are a thrill seeker, you must try the adventure cruise aboard a Zodiac!
Compared to the usual capacities of 12, 24 or 48 passengers, the new generation of zodiacs from the company, entirely designed and manufactured in L'Isle-aux-Coudres, has a capacity of 60 passengers. Increasing the number of adventurers on board these ships helps reduce the environmental footprint in the marine park, as the number of vessels at observation sites is consequently reduced.
The AML Zodiacs are whale-friendly vessels, as their engines emit low noise emissions, reducing disturbances to marine life.
Responsible Consumption
In Montreal, the AML Cavalier Maxim sources its water from the river for its everyday use. The water used is treated using an ultra-efficient wastewater system that returns water to the river even cleaner than it was initially!
While all the fleet's boats benefit from electrical connections when docked, most of them are also equipped with ''vacuum'' toilet systems in the bathrooms, similar to those on airplanes. This system uses 10 times less water when flushed.
Croisières AML offers enriching, memorable excursions with practices that respect local ecosystems.
